One More Week to Register for the Congressional Debate Mini-Camp

I will have a table promoting Guided by Kids at the Douglas County Fair at Ralston Arena next weekend so I will keep registration open until next Monday, July 18, for our one week Congressional Debate camp starting on Monday, July 25 at Omaha Marian High School.

You can't get a better educational experience than this for your students who will be in grades 5-8 next year in the Omaha Metro area. We provide real civics education, helping students learn how to participate in the democratic process as legislators and teaching them how to research, organize, present, and debate bills and resolutions they write.

The one-week session, with classes 8-10 a.m. Monday-Thursday, July 25-28, and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, July 29, is free and is taught by a National Speech and Debate Association Hall of Fame Coach, Fred Robertson, and a former Nebraska State Champion Lincoln-Douglas debater, Payton Shudak. We will also have four current Omaha Marian Congressional debaters assisting in demonstrating and providing instruction in parliamentary procedure, bill writing, and legislative debate. On Wednesday, July 27, we will welcome Nebraska State Board of Education Representative Deborah ODonnell Neary, and State Senators Megan Hunt and John McCollister, who will give brief presentations about their roles as public servants and answer questions from our students about why these chose to be involving in civic leadership and what they do for their communities.

Please consider joining us!
