We will meet at the Kroc Center tomorrow, Thursday, January 30, at 6 p.m. to finish up the inspiration speeches. We will also be discussing several proposed topics for debate this year, and then voting for one or two of the topics we think would be best for debate this year. Thanks to all students who submitted topic ideas last week even though we cancelled class due to weather. Payton and I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow evening!
I have been checking the weather forecast this morning, and it looks like we will see dropping temperatures all day, along with snow. This will mean some bad driving conditions tonight. So we will not have Guided by Kids class tonight and instead will meet Thursday, January 30, for our next session. But there is one thing I have to ask students to do. We should finish all of the personal speeches honoring a person who has been an inspiration. Each student was also to bring an idea to propose for an informative or persuasive speech. Finally, each student should come with an idea for a debate topic to propose for a vote that all middle school debate programs will have in order to determine the debate topic we will have this year!
We had three fine speeches last week in class, and we will continue with students first time speaking in front of a class, letting us know about a person in their lives who has inspired them. When Guided by Kids meets this Thursday at the Kroc Center, we will begin work on how to listen and give positive, helpful feedback to speakers as they begin giving their first spoken presentations, telling about a person who inspires them to be better people.
