Guided by Kids debater Josalie Tyson (3rd from left) waits for awards announcement. Josalie with her 3rd place medal and "most enthusiastic debater" awards earned! A very happy debater after a successful tournament. Congratulations, Josalie, on your hard work paying off at last Saturday's tournament!
At this Thursday's Guided by Kids class, we will be reviewing feedback received at the first two competitions and working to improve our presentations in both speech and debate! We had good results at the first two competitions, but we know we can improve at the remaining tournaments this spring! Charlotte and Josalie (and Josalie's younger brother, Holden) at Elkhorn Valley View Middle School for debate. Josalie and Phoenix at Creighton Prep for speech.
Two Guided by Kids students are entered to compete in the first middle school debate invitational at Elkhorn Valley View Middle School this Saturday, April 13. They will be debating the topic "The death penalty should be abolished in the United States." In class, they will do a complete practice round while other students watch and learn, and both Mr. Robertson and Ms. Shudak will give them feedback so that they are prepared for Saturday's competition.
Josalie Tyson, left, and Phoenix Nehls, right, both received top ten medals at the Creighton Prep Middle School Invitational last Friday, April 5th, for their performances in Persuasive Speaking. Josalie, a 6th grader at her first speech competition, placed 9th. Phoenix, an 8th grader, also at her first competition, placed 4th! Congratulations to both Josalie and Phoenix for representing Guided by Kids so well at our first competition this year!
We will have two students competing in persuasive speaking this Friday, April 5, at the Creighton Prep Middle School Invitational, so they will both do their speech in class at least a couple times to get feedback and prepare. Also, we need to continue to work on debate preparation since our first opportunity to compete will be Saturday, April 13, at Elkhorn Valley View Middle School!
