Start Registering for Guided by Kids 2021/2022!

Ms. Payton Shudak and I are ready to greet a new crew of 5th-8th grade students for Guided by Kids classes starting this December of 2021 and continuing through May of 2022. We offer instruction in speech, debate, critical thinking, research, and community leadership and involvement. We believe there has never been a more important time to learn about civil discourse and being an informed citizen.

Since covid 19 community spread remains a major issue in the Metro area, we will require masking of all in attendance, including instructors, and we also ask that all students who are eligible for covid vaccination do get fully vaccinated before attending a class. We understand 5th graders most likely will not yet be able to be vaccinated, so we will also continue to mask while meeting. Ms. Shudak and I are both fully vaccinated and we want to keep everyone safe while learning.

We have a new site for our classes this year, a bit more centrally located: Sump Memorial Library in Papillion, Nebraska, at 222 N. Jefferson Street. This is a nice facility with a large meeting room we can use for class which will allow us to have some separation between the students when we meet. We will cap class size at 12 students, so that we can maintain social distancing while in class.

Our first two classes will be on Tuesdays, Dec. 7 and Dec. 14, 2021, from 6-7:30 p.m., which is our regular meeting time. When we start the new year in 2022, we will shift the meeting to Thursdays 6-7:30. Our application for 5th-8th graders in the metro area will be due by Nov. 5, 2021, and you will be notified if your student will be part of Guided by Kids by the end of November.
